Our DDA compliant handrail system providing easy, non-discriminatory access to Nazareth House nursing home for all...

    Project Name:Nazareth House, Hammersmith

Location: Hammersmith Rd, Hammersmith, London W6 8DB

‘…thanks to its ability to be constructed with an Allen key, the installation of the handrail was also able to be performed with minimum disruption to the home and stress to its residents.’

    Project Scope:

Nazareth House is a Nursing Home in Hammersmith run by the Sisters of Nazareth. The home provides care for some of Hammersmith’s most vulnerable people and is residence to over 90 people over 65 who require social and nursing support. As well as helping anyone in their later years, Nazareth House provides special personal care for those suffering from dementia, long-term diseases, disorders or injuries.

The trust believes in helping its residents live their lives to their full potential and remain independent for as long as possible. So when it conducted a refurbishment of an old archive store on the site, it wanted to provide safe access for its disabled residents. Ezi Klamp were asked to help with the refurbishment and provide a DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) Compliant Handrail for both the access ramp and steps. Ezi Klamp has over 20 years of experience working with healthcare providers, so knew exactly what was needed from their handrail systems.

The DDA Compliant Handrail was the ideal choice for the trust’s needs. At 42 mm in diameter, not only does the DDA Handrail system comply with the Disability Discrimination Act regulations of being between 40-45mm, but thanks to its ability to be constructed with an Allen key, the installation of the handrail was also able to be performed with minimum disruption to the home and stress to its residents, find out more about installing our DDA-compliant handrails with our installation guide.

To comply with the ‘Not Cold to Touch’ building regulations, the handrail system provided was coated with a Polyester Powder Coat. This gives the user the best grip possible, especially during the winter when the weather can get wet and cold, and pavements can become slippery underfoot. This Polyester Powder Coat also gives the handrail high contrast to the surrounding areas giving the best visibility for those who have compromised eyesight.
