Project Name: Colerne Pumping Station
Location: Colerne
Situation
The water treatment facilities at Wessex Water Colerne were facing significant safety challenges. The existing access routes were old, worn out, and non-compliant with current safety standards. This posed a serious hazard to the maintenance teams who needed to navigate these areas regularly, especially under damp conditions which increased the risk of slips and falls.
Solution
To address these issues, Ezi Klamp designed and provided a bespoke Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) access stair solution. This modern replacement for the old ramp was designed to meet the specific needs of the facility. The GRP material was chosen for its durability, corrosion resistance, and lightweight properties, making it an ideal choice for the wet and harsh environment of the water treatment plant.
Result
The installation of the GRP access stairs significantly improved safety around the facilities. The anti-slip grating on the stair treads ensured that even in damp conditions, the risk of slipping was minimized. Maintenance teams could now move around the site with greater confidence and security, knowing that the access structures were compliant with safety standards and designed to withstand the challenging conditions of the water treatment environment. This upgrade not only enhanced safety but also contributed to the overall efficiency of the maintenance operations at Wessex Water Colerne.
